Bhopal Traffic Police have identified 11 black spots across the city based on a three-year analysis from 2023 to 2025. These dangerous stretches have consistently recorded high accident rates, with many flagged in previous reports but still awaiting corrective measures.
Platinum Plaza Square Leads in Accidents
The stretch at Platinum Plaza Square (Atal Path Square) in TT Nagar emerged as the most accident-prone zone, recording 18 accidents and six fatalities over three years. Despite speed reduction measures, the lack of CCTV cameras allows drivers to regularly jump red lights. Police recommend installing speed monitoring and automatic number plate recognition cameras, as well as synchronising traffic signals according to traffic volume.
1250 Square: Second Most Dangerous
The 1250 Square junction in Habibganj/TT Nagar recorded 10 accidents and four fatalities. After rectification work, no deaths were reported in 2025. Police have proposed widening a left turn and constructing a divider from 1250 Hospital towards Arjun Nagar. They also recommend removing the pedestrian way made of red stone blocks.
Ratnagiri Trisection: Third Black Spot
The 300-meter stretch at Ratnagiri Trisection on Raisen Road in Piplani saw nine accidents and one fatality. Ongoing construction for the 8-lane road and metro project is expected to resolve traffic issues once complete.
Other Identified Black Spots
The stretch between Court Square and Paryavas Trisection (under MP Nagar and Arera Hills police stations) reported eight accidents and two fatalities. Police recommend reducing the central divider width and trimming trees for better visibility.
Gyarah Meel Trisection and Bag Sewania Police Station Square on Hoshangabad Road each recorded eight accidents. At Gyarah Meel, four fatalities occurred; police suggest converting the stretch to a one-way route from Gyarah Meel to Nandi Square and installing proper signage. At Bag Sewania Square, they recommend clearing encroachments, removing an electric pole, and improving channelisation.
ISBT-Govindpura Turning: Persistent Black Spot
This junction connecting the BHEL area to the city remains a long-standing black spot, with five accidents and one fatality in three years. Police propose expanding the road from Chetak Bridge to Anna Nagar by removing obstacles such as shifting the bus stop and trimming trees on BHEL land.
Accident Trends and Police Response
In 2025, Bhopal recorded 2,867 road accidents with 214 fatalities, averaging eight accidents daily. From January to April 2026, 83 people died in 998 accidents, with 801 injured. Although casualties have slightly declined, ongoing construction raises concerns if repairs are not completed before the monsoon.
Additional DCP (Traffic) Basant Kaul stated that rectification work is underway, budgets have been sanctioned, and tenders issued for many sites. He urged residents to follow traffic rules: avoid drunk driving and over-speeding, wear helmets and seatbelts, and adhere to traffic norms.
