The Odisha government conducted a pivotal meeting of the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) Board of Directors on Tuesday to strategize and accelerate the city's development trajectory through advanced technology and sustainable solutions.
Key Decisions for Technological Advancement
Chaired by Anu Garg, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, the meeting witnessed participation from senior officials including Surendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, and Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of Housing & Urban Development Department. The board thoroughly evaluated ongoing smart city projects and greenlit several new initiatives designed to improve resident quality of life.
A significant technological upgrade involves the deployment of 3,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras across the city, alongside adaptive traffic signal systems and a comprehensive public address network. These measures aim to strengthen urban safety, particularly women's security, while enhancing mobility through real-time monitoring capabilities.
Expanding Citizen Services and Sustainable Initiatives
The meeting highlighted the successful implementation of 'SaharSathi' 24X7 call centre, a toll-free service (1929) launched by BSCL that now extends support to all urban local bodies throughout Odisha. This expansion demonstrates the program's effectiveness in addressing citizen concerns.
In a move toward sustainable urban development, the board approved the enhancement of Janpath, including replacing bamboo fencing with durable MS iron grills while integrating urban planning elements to create more citizen-friendly spaces. The smart city mission will prioritize solar energy adoption, rooftop rainwater harvesting, and developing child-friendly public areas.
Commitment to Citizen-First Governance
Anu Garg commended BSCL's efforts in fostering innovation and digital governance while urging continued dedication to citizen-first urban administration. She reaffirmed the government's commitment to establishing Bhubaneswar as a model of inclusivity, resilience, and technological advancement.
"As Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited forges ahead with these initiatives, the city is poised to set a benchmark in smart urban living, promising a future that is both sustainable and technologically advanced," stated Garg during the meeting.
The board emphasized the importance of accessible clean public toilets and well-maintained parks as essential components of urban infrastructure, underscoring their commitment to creating a more livable and sustainable Bhubaneswar for all residents.
