Planning and Development Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav underscored the critical role of accurate, reliable, and timely data in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during a national capacity-building workshop held in Patna on Wednesday. He emphasized that evidence-based governance is essential for effective planning and development initiatives across the state and the nation.
National Workshop Focuses on SDG Monitoring and Statistical Frameworks
The two-day workshop was organized jointly by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Bihar's planning and development department, with support from the United Nations Development Programme. The event brought together representatives from approximately 20 states and union territories to discuss strengthening statistical systems, bridging data gaps, and improving data quality for comprehensive SDG tracking.

He announced Bihar's ambitious goal to emerge as a technology hub by November 2026, with a strategic focus on industrialization, artificial intelligence, and tourism development.
Key Themes and Outcomes of the Workshop
Officials at the workshop highlighted several critical areas for enhancing data-driven governance:
- District-level monitoring frameworks to ensure localized implementation of SDG targets.
- Gender-sensitive data collection to address disparities and promote inclusive development.
- Environmental accounting practices to track sustainability metrics and ecological impacts.
Several publications were released during the event, providing resources and guidelines for improving statistical methodologies and SDG monitoring across various sectors. The workshop served as a platform for sharing best practices and collaborative strategies to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The discussions emphasized that robust statistical systems are foundational to transparent governance and equitable growth, enabling policymakers to make informed decisions and allocate resources effectively. As Bihar positions itself as a future technology hub, the integration of advanced data analytics and AI-driven insights will be crucial in driving industrial and tourism sectors forward.
