Bihar Vigilance Bureau Nabs Panchayat Secretary in Bribery Sting Operation
The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) of Bihar has made a significant arrest in its ongoing crackdown on corruption, apprehending a panchayat secretary in Rohtas district on Wednesday. The official was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs12,000, highlighting persistent issues in local governance.
Details of the Arrest and Allegations
Mrityunjay Pandit, who served as the panchayat secretary in Terasan panchayat under the Karghar block, was arrested during a meticulously planned operation. According to Director General of Vigilance J S Gangwar, the action stemmed from a formal complaint filed by Dharmendra Kumar Patel, a resident of Terasan village. Patel accused Pandit of demanding illegal gratification to release pending payments under a government housing scheme.
The complaint detailed that a total of Rs24,000 was owed, calculated at Rs2,000 per month from April 1, 2022, to April 1, 2023. Pandit allegedly solicited half of this amount, Rs12,000, as a bribe to expedite the processing of the payment. After verifying the allegations, a vigilance team led by Superintendent of Police Sita Sinha swiftly moved to apprehend the accused.

The arrest occurred near Terasan Mor, where Pandit was caught in the act of accepting the bribe money. This operation underscores the Bureau's commitment to rooting out corruption at the grassroots level.
