The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairman, V. Ram Prasath Manohar, visited several water-scarce areas in Bengaluru on Tuesday to assess the ground situation and reassure residents about water availability this summer. He stated that the board has taken adequate measures to ensure there is no water shortage in the city during the upcoming summer months.
Inspection of Key Areas
Manohar inspected localities such as Yelahanka, Vidyaranyapura, and parts of East Bengaluru, which have historically faced water scarcity. During the visit, he interacted with residents and local leaders to understand their concerns. He said that the BWSSB has identified critical zones and is implementing short-term and long-term solutions to mitigate water stress.
New Borewells and Water Supply Augmentation
The BWSSB has commissioned new borewells in several areas to augment the water supply. Additionally, the board is repairing existing borewells and ensuring that water tankers are deployed to areas with acute shortage. Manohar said that the board is also coordinating with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to ensure that water is supplied efficiently.

Addressing residents in Vidyaranyapura, Manohar said, "We have taken all necessary steps to ensure that there is no water shortage this summer. The board is monitoring the situation daily and will take corrective actions as needed." He urged residents to use water judiciously and report any leaks or wastage to the BWSSB helpline.

The BWSSB is also working on long-term measures, including the rejuvenation of lakes and rainwater harvesting structures. The board has set a target to increase groundwater recharge through these initiatives. Manohar said that the board is also exploring the use of treated water for non-potable purposes to reduce the burden on freshwater sources.
