Census 2027 House-Listing Starts Saturday in Jharkhand

The door-to-door house-listing process, which marks the first phase of Census 2027 in Jharkhand, will formally commence from Saturday as enumerators begin physical verification across the state. This follows the conclusion of the self-enumeration phase, introduced for the first time, which ended after midnight on Friday.

The self-enumeration process, which started on May 1, saw active participation from residents. According to official figures from the Directorate of Census Operations, Jharkhand, as of 5 pm on Friday, 1,55,200 families had completed their self-enumeration. An official noted that the numbers might increase slightly before the window closed at midnight.

Among districts, Ranchi led with 42,364 self-enumerations, followed by East Singhbhum with 16,523 and Hazaribag with 9,927. The house-listing work will continue until June 14, engaging nearly 77,716 personnel across the state.

Enumerators visiting households will ask a total of 33 questions, primarily focusing on household details, available facilities, and assets. The entire process will be conducted digitally using a mobile app. A statement from the census office emphasized that all personal information provided will be kept confidential as per the Census Act, 1948 and Census Rules, 1990. Citizens were urged not to share sensitive information with enumerators.

Prabhat Kumar, Director of the Census Directorate Jharkhand, appealed to citizens to provide accurate information to help make government schemes more effective. In Ranchi, Deputy Commissioner and Principal District Census Officer Manjunath Bhajantri confirmed that official kits, including ID cards, digital devices, and formats, have been distributed to all personnel engaged in the house-listing work. He added that necessary guidelines have been issued to ensure a smooth and timely process.
