Chandigarh Water Cut: 24-Hour Shutdown on Jan 7-8 for Pipeline Replacement
Chandigarh 24-hour water shutdown Jan 7-8

The Chandigarh administration has declared a crucial 24-hour water supply interruption scheduled for this weekend. The shutdown is necessary to carry out urgent repair work involving the replacement of a major damaged pipeline.

Essential Repair Work Details

The primary reason for the disruption is the replacement of a damaged 1,000mm PSC (Prestressed Concrete Cylinder) pipeline with a new MS (Mild Steel) pipeline. This critical infrastructure work is aimed at ensuring a smooth and reliable water flow from the Water Works in Sector 39 to the Water Works in Sectors 52 and 32. The administration has timed the work to minimize inconvenience, with the shutdown officially in effect from January 7 to January 8.

Sector-Wise Water Supply Schedule

During the maintenance period, pumping to Water Works Sector 52 will be completely halted, while Sector 32 will receive only a partial supply. This will result in a cascading effect on water timings across various parts of the city. Residents are strongly urged to note the detailed schedule for their sectors and store adequate water in advance.

Water Supply Timings for January 7

Morning: Normal water supply will be maintained across the city.

Evening: A significant impact will be felt during the evening hours. There will be no water supply in sectors 44, 45, 48 to 56, 61, and 63.

Additionally, residents in sectors 20C & D, 21C & D, 31 to 34, 44 to 47, Industrial Area Phases I & II, and Ramdarbar will experience low-pressure supply only between 6 PM and 8 PM.

Water Supply Timings for January 8

Morning: Supply will be restored in a phased manner. Sectors 44, 45, 48-56, 61, and 63 will receive normal supply from 5 AM to 9 AM. The rest of Chandigarh will have normal supply during the extended window of 3:30 AM to 9 AM.

Evening: Normal supply will resume in the previously affected sectors and the Industrial Area from 6 PM to 8:30 PM. For the remainder of the city, the evening supply will be from 5 PM to 9 PM.

Advisory for Residents

The Chandigarh administration has issued a clear advisory, emphasizing the importance of storing sufficient water beforehand to cope with the scheduled shutdown. Planning for water usage during the specified low-pressure and no-supply periods will help mitigate inconvenience for households and businesses alike. This proactive maintenance is a step towards preventing future disruptions and strengthening the city's water distribution network.
