Chandigarh Administrator Conducts Extensive Review of Public Infrastructure
In a significant move to enhance the quality of public spaces, Punjab Governor and Union Territory Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria conducted a comprehensive inspection of several key public sites across Chandigarh on Saturday. The visit aimed to review infrastructure, maintenance, and civic amenities, with a strong focus on improving accessibility and utility for residents.
Detailed Assessment of Parks and Gardens
During the inspection, Kataria visited the Japanese Garden in Sector 31 and the Garden of Palms at Sector 42 Lake. At these locations, he meticulously reviewed park facilities, including walking tracks, benches, and fencing. He issued clear instructions to the concerned departments to upgrade these amenities, ensure better cleanliness standards, and maintain adequate water levels in the lake to support ecological balance.
Boosting Tourism and Greening Initiatives
The administrator later proceeded to the Chandigarh Botanical Garden in Sarangpur, where he emphasized the need to develop the site into a major tourist attraction. As part of this initiative, he inaugurated the Hi-Tech Nursery – Advanced Plant Propagation Unit. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to raise healthy, fast-growing saplings through modern techniques, supporting afforestation, eco-restoration, urban greening, and biodiversity enhancement across the city.
Upgrading Community Facilities
Kataria also inspected the community centre in Sector 38, reviewing the existing infrastructure. He directed officials to rejuvenate and upgrade old community halls within the premises to improve public utility, ensuring that these spaces remain functional and welcoming for community activities.

Officials stated that the inspections were strategically aimed at strengthening civic infrastructure and ensuring that residents have access to well-maintained and accessible public facilities throughout Chandigarh.
