Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Illegal Vehicle Dumping and Repairs in Manimajra

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation launched a targeted enforcement operation on Thursday in the motor market area of Manimajra, Sector 13, to address rampant vehicle dumping and unauthorized repair activities on public land. This special drive was initiated in response to numerous complaints from residents about the misuse of roads and parking spaces, which were causing significant inconvenience and traffic disruptions in the busy commercial zone.

Impounding of Vehicles and Enforcement Details

During the intensive operation, the MC's enforcement team impounded a total of 14 vehicles that were either abandoned for extended periods or being used for illegal repair work on public property. The seized vehicles included:

  • Three large trucks
  • Nine passenger cars
  • Two tempo travellers

The action specifically targeted shopkeepers and mechanics who were unlawfully occupying roads and parking areas for vehicle repair activities, thereby obstructing smooth traffic flow and creating public nuisance.

Objectives and Future Enforcement Plans

The primary objective of this drive was to clear public spaces of illegally dumped vehicles and unauthorized repair setups, ensuring better traffic management and restoring public areas for their intended use. The Municipal Corporation emphasized that such enforcement actions are crucial for maintaining urban order and public safety in Chandigarh's commercial districts.

The MC has issued a stern warning that strict action will continue against all violators, with similar drives planned regularly across different parts of the city. This ongoing enforcement strategy aims to systematically curb illegal vehicle repair activities and remove abandoned vehicles from public areas, addressing a persistent urban management challenge that affects both residents and businesses.

The corporation's proactive approach reflects its commitment to addressing citizen complaints promptly and maintaining Chandigarh's reputation as a well-planned and orderly city. By targeting specific problem areas like the Manimajra motor market, authorities hope to set a precedent for similar enforcement actions throughout the municipal jurisdiction.
