In a decisive move to enhance the management and oversight of paid parking sites across Chandigarh, Joint Municipal Commissioner Inder Jeet chaired a comprehensive review meeting on Wednesday. The session focused on a detailed evaluation of parking operations, revenue collection, deployment of parking attendants, and overall site management. Multiple directives were issued to ensure transparency, accountability, and smooth functioning of all paid parking facilities in the city.
Key Directives for Improved Monitoring
The joint municipal commissioner instructed all concerned junior engineers to submit daily cash collection reports for each paid parking site to the civic body's parking branch on a regular basis. Additionally, officials were directed to maintain complete records of all parking attendants, including their assigned locations, and to physically verify their deployment at respective sites.
Emphasizing the need to curb revenue leakage, Inder Jeet ordered regular inspections to ensure that no vehicle enters any paid parking area without paying the prescribed fee. Sub-divisional engineers and junior engineers were told to immediately report any irregularities observed during inspections.
Optimizing Parking Operations
To improve efficiency, executive engineers of road divisions were tasked with identifying low-revenue parking sites and submitting detailed reports. Based on these reports, decisions regarding the continuation or discontinuation of such sites will be made. Special attention was given to parking sites at Sector 34 Piccadilly (backside and right side) and Sector 43, where officials were asked to provide one-month day-wise revenue records for detailed assessment.
Elante Mall Parking and Traffic Management
The meeting also discussed traffic management and parking arrangements near Elante Mall. The concerned executive engineer was directed to arrange barricading where necessary to improve traffic flow and streamline parking operations. Furthermore, it was decided that a request would be sent to Bank of Baroda to resolve battery-related issues with POS machines installed at the Elante Mall parking site, facilitating smooth digital transactions for the public.
