Chandigarh's Joint Commissioner Mandates Strict Action Against Civic Violators
In a decisive move to bolster municipal enforcement, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Himanshu Gupta, has issued a directive for a zero-tolerance policy against civic violations across the city. During a high-level meeting with junior engineers, sanitary inspectors, and enforcement inspectors, Gupta emphasized the need for immediate and firm action to uphold public order and cleanliness standards.
Enhanced Enforcement and On-the-Spot Challaning
The Joint Commissioner instructed field staff to remain vigilant and expedite the challaning process without any leniency. He stressed that on-the-spot challaning is crucial to create a strong deterrent against violators, ensuring that municipal norms are strictly adhered to. Officers were directed to intensify inspections and maintain consistent enforcement efforts across all sectors of Chandigarh.
Key Violations Under Scrutiny
Gupta highlighted several specific violations that fall under the municipal corporation's jurisdiction, including:
- Use of banned plastic items
- Littering in public places
- Dumping of construction debris along roadsides
- Illegal vending activities
- Unauthorized advertisement boards
- Posters pasted on walls causing defacement
- Abandoned or dumped vehicles
He noted that such infractions not only undermine cleanliness and public order but also negatively impact the city's overall image and functionality.
Coordination and Transparency in Enforcement
To ensure effective implementation, the Joint Commissioner called for better coordination among various departments. He directed teams to conduct regular and focused enforcement drives, particularly in identified hotspots where violations are prevalent. Additionally, officials were instructed to maintain proper records of all challans issued, promoting transparency and accountability in the enforcement process.
This initiative aims to reinforce Chandigarh's commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly urban environment, with strict measures in place to address civic violations promptly and efficiently.
