CM Majhi Inaugurates New Road, Lays Flyover Foundation

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to the city's road infrastructure, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday inaugurated the Infocity-Ekamra Kanan Road and laid the foundation stone for the Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan Road, along with a flyover on it.

Infocity-Ekamra Kanan Road

The Infocity-Ekamra Kanan Road is a crucial stretch that recently underwent a massive eviction drive to free government land from encroachment. This stretch connects the existing side road from Salia Sahi Square via Hatiasuni to Infocity, forming the left parallel road. The construction of this road has significantly decongested the old stretch between Jayadev Vihar and Nandankanan, which will also undergo renovation.

Government sources revealed that a multi-agency special eviction and demolition drive was carried out to expedite work on the proposed left-parallel road, resulting in the reclamation of 800 meters of government land in Salia Sahi.

Road Specifications and Benefits

The road is 60 meters (200 feet) wide. After it joins the stretch at Salia Sahi, it becomes a 13-kilometer seamless alternate road for the city. The parallel road was essential to decongest the main Bhubaneswar-Cuttack National Highway-16, which most people use to commute between the two cities. The Jayadev Vihar-Patia-KIIT Square area, which caters to residents, hosts several hotels, corporate offices, large residential complexes, Nandankanan Zoo, and a private university. This road now bears the traffic load, and during the evening, it becomes heavily congested.

Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan Road and Flyover

The existing Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan stretch, which will undergo renovation, will simultaneously see a flyover constructed over it as part of a futuristic plan to expand the city's road network while addressing congestion issues.

Rest Room at Unit-II

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation for a rest room at Unit-II. Officials stated that the rest room will be a 20-storey building in the heart of the city, capable of accommodating 2,500 people at one time. Spread over 3 acres, it will be built at a cost of Rs 574 crore.
