It is expected to accommodate over 200 vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, in a structured and organized manner. The project will be executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Roads and Buildings Department.
Funding and Timeline
The entire cost of Rs 9.60 crore will be borne by the state government. The project is scheduled to be completed within 18 months from the start of construction. Officials have been directed to expedite the tendering process and ensure timely execution.
Objectives
- Reduce traffic congestion in Ganderbal town center.
- Provide safe and secure parking for residents and visitors.
- Boost local economic activity by easing access to markets.
The approval comes as part of the government's broader infrastructure development plan for the Kashmir valley. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the need for modern amenities to improve the quality of life for citizens.
Local Reactions
Local residents and shopkeepers have welcomed the decision, citing the acute shortage of parking space. Many hope the project will also reduce haphazard parking that often blocks narrow streets.
