Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday inaugurated the redeveloped Fountain Chowk at Kotwali Bazaar in Dharamshala. He also dedicated a new e-bus charging depot and maintenance centre to the public, reaffirming the state government's commitment to sustainable urban development and eco-friendly public transport.
Fountain Chowk Redevelopment Project
The Fountain Chowk redevelopment project, completed by the Dharamshala Smart City Limited at a cost of Rs 70 lakh, aims to ease traffic congestion while preserving the area's cultural character. The fountain and the statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh have been repositioned to create additional road space, and the Ramleela stage and fountain area have been merged into a public plaza. The upgraded site features traditional murals, modern lighting, seating arrangements, a variable messaging system and an attractive central fountain.
E-Bus Charging Depot and New Routes
Sukhu also dedicated the Rs 11.90-crore e-bus charging depot and maintenance centre and approved three new intra-city e-bus routes. He said similar charging infrastructure would be developed across the state to promote clean, efficient and sustainable public transportation.
