Logistical Challenges of the Massive Jatra
The annual Davanagere jatra is one of the biggest religious fairs in the city, typically held around February and March each year. This significant event attracts tens of thousands of devotees not only from Davanagere district but also from neighboring regions. With celebrations continuing late into the night, the administration faces substantial logistical and security challenges due to narrow city roads and dense residential areas surrounding the temple premises.
These conditions significantly increase risks of potential stampedes, traffic gridlock, and medical emergencies, requiring meticulous planning and constant supervision from local authorities.
Officials Share Their Nightlong Experience
Deputy Commissioner Gangadharaswamy G M shared his firsthand account of the vigil with media outlets, revealing that officials had initially anticipated the crowd would disperse by midnight. "We were anticipating that the spectators would dissipate by midnight, but the numbers only swelled as we kept vigil," he explained. "Fortunately, there was no problem in terms of either unlawful services at the event or crowd management."
The official confirmed that more than one lakh devotees peacefully participated in the rituals and had darshan of the deity, with many traveling from neighboring districts including Chitradurga, Ballari, and Haveri.
