In a significant move that promises to end a three-decade-long water crisis, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal laid the foundation stone for a new water pipeline at the Border Security Force (BSF) Camp in Chhawla on Thursday.
Ending 30 Years of Water Scarcity
The ambitious project, once completed, will provide a permanent solution to the persistent water problems faced by approximately 10,000 BSF personnel and their families residing in the camp. For years, residents have depended on unreliable water tankers and inadequate supply systems.
"This marks the end of a 30-year struggle for clean drinking water at the BSF Camp," declared CM Kejriwal during the ceremony. He emphasized that those who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation should never have to fight for such a basic necessity.
Project Specifications and Timeline
The new pipeline will stretch approximately 1.5 kilometers from the Dwarka Water Treatment Plant to the BSF Camp. The Delhi Jal Board is spearheading the project with an estimated cost of ₹2.5 crore.
- Pipeline length: 1.5 km from Dwarka Water Treatment Plant
- Project cost: Approximately ₹2.5 crore
- Beneficiaries: Around 10,000 BSF personnel and family members
- Completion timeline: Expected within the next few months
A Tribute to Our Protectors
Chief Minister Kejriwal highlighted the government's commitment to improving the quality of life for security forces and their families. "Our brave BSF personnel guard our borders in the most challenging conditions. The least we can do is ensure their families back home have access to clean drinking water and basic amenities," he stated.
The project represents a crucial step in addressing the long-standing infrastructure gaps in peripheral areas of Delhi, particularly in establishments housing our armed forces.
Broader Implications for Delhi's Water Infrastructure
This initiative is part of the Delhi government's larger mission to strengthen water supply networks across the capital. The successful implementation of this pipeline could serve as a model for addressing similar water scarcity issues in other security force establishments and residential areas in Delhi's outskirts.
With this project, the Delhi government aims to set a new standard for essential service provision to those who serve the nation, ensuring that no citizen, especially our protectors, has to struggle for basic necessities like clean water.
