In a significant push to enhance the capital's sanitation infrastructure, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to receive a major boost of new cleaning equipment. The move comes with a firm assurance from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta that there will be no financial hurdles in executing vital civic projects.
Major Sanitation Upgrade for Delhi
The fresh allocation includes a substantial fleet of modern machinery aimed at tackling the city's waste management challenges head-on. The MCD will be provided with 70 advanced road sweeping machines and 100 compactors. Additionally, a significant number of 1,000-litre capacity litter picker machines will be distributed to strengthen daily cleaning operations across the city's wards.
The decisions were finalized during a crucial meeting held on Sunday, where CM Rekha Gupta engaged with MCD councillors to discuss pressing civic issues. The agenda covered sanitation, budgetary allocations, and the effective rollout of government schemes.
Focus on Ground-Level Implementation
Senior councillor and DEMS committee chairperson Sandeep Kapoor highlighted that the discussions were intensely focused on practical, ground-level challenges and strategies to bolster public services. He confirmed that the Chief Minister personally assured the councillors regarding the prompt availability of the promised cleaning equipment.
Leader of the house Pravesh Wahi shared that CM Gupta directed councillors to ensure effective on-ground implementation so that Delhi's residents can experience direct benefits from various schemes. As part of this directive, each municipal ward will be equipped with litter picker machines. This will be supplemented by other essential equipment like JCB machines and fixed compactors to create a comprehensive sanitation toolkit for local bodies.
Emphasis on Fund Utilisation and Maintenance
Beyond the new machinery, the Chief Minister underscored two other critical areas. She stressed the importance of optimally utilising funds that have already been allocated for civic works. Standing committee chairperson Satya Sharma reiterated this point, noting that councillors were instructed to prioritise the efficient use of resources.
Furthermore, CM Gupta emphasised the need to prioritise the upkeep and maintenance of the city's parks, recognising them as vital green lungs and public spaces. Another key operational shift pushed for was the intensification of night-cleaning drives, a measure expected to significantly improve visible cleanliness during daytime hours without causing traffic disruptions.
This comprehensive plan, backed by a promise of unconstrained funding, marks a concerted effort by the Delhi government and the MCD to address long-standing civic concerns and elevate the city's hygiene standards.
