Delhi LG Destroys 1700 Kg Narcotics Worth Rs 72 Crore

New Delhi: Around 1,700 kg of narcotics valued at Rs 72 crore were destroyed during the ninth drug destruction event on Tuesday, led by Lieutenant Governor TS Sandhu alongside Commissioner of Police Satish Golchha. The event marked a significant step in Delhi’s campaign to become drug-free by 2027.

Establishment of Anti-Narcotics Task Force Police Station

LG Sandhu announced the establishment of Delhi’s first dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force police station during the event. This specialized unit will focus on combating drug trafficking and related crimes in the capital.

Drugs Destroyed and Cumulative Efforts

The drugs destroyed on Tuesday included 1,610 kg of cannabis, 21 kg of charas, 11 kg of heroin, 591 grams of cocaine, 21 kg of cannabis sativa, and 30 kg of alprazolam tablets. The event was held at a waste management company in the SSI Industrial area. As part of the broader campaign, police have destroyed a total of 46,500 kg of drugs, worth Rs 13,830 crore in the international market.

Legal Actions and Seizures

Up to April 30, a total of 1,129 cases under the NDPS Act were registered in Delhi, leading to the arrest of 1,397 alleged drug traffickers. During investigations, assets worth approximately Rs 11.3 crore were seized. Additionally, detention orders under the PITNDPS Act were issued against nine alleged drug peddlers this year, with two lodged in Chennai Jail. Proposals against 48 repeat offenders involved in narco-smuggling and drug trafficking are under process.

Historical Drug Destruction Events

Previous destruction events include: 2,888 kg on December 21, 2022; nearly 15,700 kg on June 26, 2023; 10,631 kg on February 20, 2024; 10,601 kg on December 17, 2024; and in 2025, 1,575 kg on January 24, 1,624 kg on April 3, 1,629 kg on June 26, and nearly 1,847 kg on September 29. These efforts underscore the government’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse.
