The announcement was made by Home Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday, just one day after a devastating fire in a residential-cum-commercial building in Palam claimed nine lives, including three children from the same family. This tragedy has underscored the urgent need for strengthened fire safety protocols.
"Moving beyond standard protocol, we have mandated that every single establishment — including those located away in residential areas — must strictly adhere to safety rules," stated Sood. "To achieve this with speed and precision, we have ordered third-party experts to map and audit every establishment in the city. Every worker and every family deserves to feel safe, no matter where they are. We are ending the era of blind spots in our city's safety."
Scope and Details of the Fire Audits
The comprehensive inspections will evaluate multiple critical aspects of fire preparedness and emergency response. Key areas of focus include:

- Functionality of fire alarms and detection systems
- Availability and condition of sprinklers and fire extinguishers

Concurrently, a magisterial inquiry into the Palam Village fire has been initiated, following an order from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. An official noted, "A dedicated team is working on the magisterial inquiry, and the preliminary report is expected to be submitted shortly."
This audit directive follows a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority held on Wednesday, which resulted in orders to conduct a widespread fire audit across the entire capital.
