NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has significantly bolstered security measures across the national capital in anticipation of Eid-ul-Azha, also known as Bakrid. Officials reported on Friday that intensified foot patrolling, vehicle inspections, picket checks, and a series of Aman Committee meetings are being conducted across multiple districts to ensure a safe and harmonious festival.
Community Outreach and Coordination
Police have organized community outreach programs, guard briefings, and coordination meetings to facilitate peaceful celebrations. In the Shahdara district, a meeting was convened at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), where senior officers engaged with local representatives and community members, urging them to comply with government norms and regulations.
A senior police officer from Shahdara stated, "Special emphasis was placed on three key elements: coordination, vigilance, and public participation, to guarantee that the festival is observed in a peaceful and harmonious environment." Residents were encouraged to preserve communal amity and promptly report any suspicious activities or instances of rumor-mongering.
East Delhi Initiatives
In East Delhi, police have conducted interactive sessions with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs) at various locations as part of confidence-building measures ahead of the festival. An officer from the East district explained, "Station House Officers (SHOs) are holding separate Aman Committee meetings, while personnel are organizing Prahri meetings at multiple sites." These meetings aim to strengthen collaboration with local residents, traders, and volunteers to ensure peaceful celebrations and smooth management of public movement during the festival period.
Northeast and West District Operations
The Northeast district police, supported by additional forces, has ramped up foot patrolling in sensitive areas and crowded markets. In the western region, police personnel are conducting extensive vehicle checks and patrolling exercises in markets, residential colonies, and other vulnerable points. Security arrangements have been enhanced with increased deployment at key locations, including markets, religious sites, and transport hubs.
Police stated in a social media post, "Rigorous foot patrolling, vehicle checking, and picket inspections are being carried out across the district to maintain law and order."
Government Guidelines
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has issued guidelines prohibiting the sacrifice of protected animals and banning slaughter in public places during Bakrid celebrations.
