New Delhi: The Delhi Police has implemented a series of austerity measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption and operational expenditure. These measures include rationalizing VIP and VVIP convoy sizes, promoting virtual meetings, and coordinating route planning to conserve resources.
Key Measures Announced
According to an official order from the General Administration branch, approved by the Commissioner of Police, the following steps have been mandated:
- Rationalization of VIP Movements: Convoys for VIPs and VVIPs will be streamlined to minimize vehicle usage.
- Vehicle Pooling and Carpooling: Non-patrolling staff are required to pool official motorcycles and vehicles. Carpooling is encouraged for court appearances and routine duties.
- Video Conferencing Over Physical Meetings: Officials are directed to prefer virtual meetings to reduce travel.
- Use of Public Transport: Personnel are encouraged to use the Metro and other public transport where feasible.
Monitoring and Compliance
District and unit heads have been instructed to monitor fuel consumption, maintain vehicle logbooks, and ensure timely servicing to promote economical usage. Officers must consolidate multiple tasks into single trips through better route planning and coordination.
Additional Directives
The order also emphasizes electricity conservation in offices, reduction of redundant travel expenses, rationalization of manpower deployment, and prioritization of Made-in-India products in procurement and personal use. All Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and supervisory officers have been directed to ensure immediate compliance.
These measures are part of a broader effort to cut unnecessary vehicular use and operational costs while maintaining effective policing.
