Delhi PWD Invests Rs 80.8 Lakh in Major Road Safety Overhaul for Southeast Delhi
The Public Works Department (PWD) in Delhi has announced a comprehensive plan to execute a series of repair and safety enhancement works on two critical road stretches in the southeast part of the city. The initiative targets Maharaja Agrasen Marg and Madanpur Khadar road, with the primary objective of significantly improving pedestrian infrastructure and bolstering overall traffic safety for residents and commuters.
Strategic Locations and Scope of the Project
Both roads are strategically positioned in southeast Delhi, serving as vital connectors for local communities. Maharaja Agrasen Marg traverses through the bustling areas of Kalkaji and Govindpuri, while Madanpur Khadar road is situated near Sarita Vihar and Jasola. This latter stretch plays a crucial role in linking village and residential pockets to major arterial routes such as Mathura Road and the Delhi-Noida corridor, making its maintenance essential for regional mobility.
Detailed Repair and Safety Measures
The planned works encompass a multifaceted approach to address existing infrastructural deficiencies:
- Footpath and Berm Repairs: The project will focus on repairing damaged footpaths and berm areas. This includes relaying concrete, installing paver blocks, and applying stone flooring at various locations along both stretches. Special attention will be given to restoring broken edges, uneven surfaces, and worn-out pedestrian sections that currently pose significant inconvenience and safety hazards to walkers.
- Road Safety Installations: To enhance traffic safety, the department will install speed breakers at strategic points. Additionally, glow studs will be fixed along the carriageway to improve visibility during nighttime or low-light conditions, aiding in better lane discipline and accident prevention.
- Advanced Materials and Markings: Factory-made chamfered-edge concrete paver blocks will be laid in footpaths, parks, lawns, driveways, and light traffic parking areas as needed. Furthermore, thick retro-reflective road marking strips will be applied to delineate lanes clearly, ensuring improved visibility and adherence to traffic rules, particularly in dim lighting scenarios.

The PWD has allocated an estimated budget of Rs 80.8 lakh for this extensive project, underscoring the government's commitment to urban infrastructure development.
