Traffic Disruptions in North Delhi Due to Sewer Line Construction
Traffic movement in parts of North Delhi is set to be significantly affected for more than two weeks due to ongoing sewer line work on Rajpur Road in the Civil Lines area. The Delhi Jal Board is currently laying a 300 mm diameter sewer pipeline, with the project scheduled to continue until March 25, as per an advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police.
Road Closures and Diversion Routes
Excavation and construction activities have led to restrictions on several key roads, including Rajpur Road, Mall Road, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Chauburja Marg, Bhiku Ram Jain Marg, Shamnath Marg, and Lok Niwas Marg. Specifically, Rajpur Road from Rajpur Authority Cut to MCD Chowk will remain completely closed for vehicular movement. To manage congestion, vehicles from PS Civil Lines red light or Rajpur Authority Cut will be diverted.
Traffic police have outlined that vehicles heading towards Tis Hazari will be diverted at PS Civil Lines red light and Rajpur Authority Cut. Meanwhile, traffic moving from MCD Chowk towards Civil Lines will be permitted only on one operational carriageway up to the PS Civil Lines red light.
Recommended Diversion Paths
Motorists travelling through the Civil Lines area are strongly advised to follow designated diversion routes to minimize delays. One suggested route from PS Civil Lines red light involves taking Upper Authority Cut, then turning left onto Under Hill Road, followed by a right turn onto Shamnath Marg before proceeding towards Raj Niwas Road and MCD Chowk.
Another diversion option allows commuters to move via Under Hill Road, Shamnath Marg, and Boulevard Road, with a U-turn under Yudhister Setu before joining Rani Jhansi Road. Authorities have emphasized the importance of avoiding roadside parking and cooperating with personnel deployed at key junctions to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Updates and Precautions
For real-time updates on traffic conditions, residents are encouraged to check the Delhi Traffic Police website or their official social media handles. The advisory highlights the need for public cooperation during this period to prevent further congestion and ensure safety.
This infrastructure work is part of broader efforts to improve Delhi's sewer system, but it necessitates temporary inconveniences for commuters. Plan your journeys accordingly and stay informed to navigate the affected areas efficiently.
