Delhi Faces 48-Hour Water Supply Disruption in Southwest Regions
The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has officially declared a significant water supply interruption impacting numerous localities in southwest Delhi. This essential utility suspension is scheduled to persist for a full 48-hour duration, commencing on Wednesday and extending until Friday morning. The primary cause for this extensive disruption is attributed to critical interconnection operations being conducted at the Dwarka water treatment plant.
Technical Details of the Infrastructure Work
According to the detailed announcement released by the Delhi Jal Board on Wednesday, the shutdown is necessitated by the integration of a newly installed 1,500mm-diameter twin raw water pipeline with the pre-existing 1,500mm-diameter twin raw water main. This intricate interconnection procedure is taking place at the Dwarka water treatment facility, specifically located in the Bhagya Vihar area. The planned water supply cessation is confirmed to remain in effect until 11:00 AM on Friday, as per the official DJB statement.
Comprehensive List of Affected Localities
The water supply suspension will have a widespread impact across multiple residential and commercial zones in southwest Delhi. The affected regions encompass a broad spectrum of neighborhoods, including but not limited to:
- Dwarka Sub City and its surrounding sectors
- Mahavir Enclave and Vijay Enclave residential areas
- Uttam Nagar and all adjacent colonies and settlements
- Raj Nagar Phase I and Phase II developments
- Bijwasan, Dhul Siras, and Bindapur localities
- Sewak Park, Sitapuri, and Janakpuri residential zones
- Laxmi Vihar and Bajrang Enclave communities
- Nangli Sakrawati, Matiala, and Palam areas
- Kapashera village and its vicinity
- Najafgarh town and all adjoining regions
Contingency Measures and Public Assistance
In response to this substantial water supply interruption, the Delhi Jal Board has implemented contingency plans to mitigate public inconvenience. The utility authority has confirmed that water tankers will be strategically deployed throughout the affected areas during the shutdown period. These emergency water supply vehicles will be available upon specific request from residents and communities experiencing water scarcity. The DJB emphasizes that this temporary measure aims to provide essential water access while the crucial infrastructure upgrade is completed at the Dwarka treatment plant.
