Bhubaneswar: A day after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reduced his convoy size, Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo has also stopped the use of pilot and escort vehicles. A release from his office stated that from Thursday onwards, he will use only a single vehicle for traveling to the secretariat and for other official engagements.
Move to Cut Costs and Set Example
This decision is seen as a step towards austerity and setting an example for other government officials. By eliminating the pilot and escort vehicles, the Deputy CM aims to reduce unnecessary expenditure and streamline official travel. The move comes shortly after Chief Minister Majhi trimmed his own convoy, signaling a broader push for fiscal discipline within the state government.
Reactions and Implications
Political observers have welcomed the decision, calling it a positive step towards reducing the burden on the state exchequer. The use of pilot and escort vehicles had often been criticized as a symbol of VIP culture. With this change, the Deputy CM's travel will now be more modest, potentially inspiring other ministers and bureaucrats to follow suit.
Citizens have also expressed approval on social media, praising the leadership for leading by example. The move is expected to save significant funds over time, which can be redirected towards development projects. However, security concerns have been raised by some, though the Deputy CM's office has assured that necessary security protocols will still be maintained.
