Dumraon Railway Station Modernization Accelerates After Monsoon Break
Modernization work at Dumraon railway station has regained momentum after a brief pause during the monsoon season. Construction activities have resumed in phases with improving weather conditions. Railway officials confirm the project is now progressing steadily toward completion.
Project Details and Current Status
The redevelopment is being undertaken under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The estimated cost stands at Rs 17.1 crore. The objective is to transform Dumraon into a modern, passenger-friendly station.
Workers are currently laying reinforcement bars for the new ticket booking office. Construction of the main station building will begin after this phase. Railway officials report nearly 50% of the work has been completed so far.
A senior official from the Danapur division provided details about the new station building. It will spread over approximately 3,012 square metres. This structure will be superior to the existing one.
The official highlighted several key features:- Modern ticket counters
- Improved waiting areas
- Enhanced passenger amenities
- Secure entry and exit gates
Infrastructure Improvements
The project includes development of a large circulating area covering about 19,214 square metres. This space will streamline movement of passengers and vehicles. A six-metre-wide foot overbridge will connect the platforms.
New platform shelters are also under construction. Surfacing work for 500 metres of platforms has been planned as part of the upgrades.
Passenger Comfort and Accessibility
The redevelopment strongly focuses on improving passenger comfort and station aesthetics. Interior upgrade work will begin soon. The station will be repainted and aesthetically enhanced in phases.
A unique feature will be the inclusion of shehnai music by Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan. The legendary musician was born in Dumraon, making this tribute particularly meaningful.
Accessibility receives special attention in the redesign. Two lifts will serve senior citizens, people with disabilities, and women. The project also includes:
- A modern waiting hall of about 104 square metres
- New toilets spread over 105 square metres
- A second entrance of around 150 square metres
Officials note that work on the circulating area and second entrance is progressing rapidly.
Passenger Reactions and Station Significance
Passengers have welcomed the renewed pace of construction. Ravishankar Srivastava, a daily passenger, expressed optimism about the upgrades. He believes they will provide major relief, especially for senior citizens.
Another commuter, Anupama Bharati, highlighted the importance of well-maintained facilities. She noted that improved waiting halls and toilets would greatly enhance comfort for women and families.
Dumraon station recorded revenue of Rs 9.57 crore in the current financial year. Officials cite this strong performance as a key factor in its selection under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The station's growing importance as both a passenger and business hub is clearly reflected in these numbers.
Timeline and Challenges
Railway officials acknowledge some delays occurred due to rainfall and technical issues. Despite these challenges, they remain confident about completing the project before March 2026. All work will adhere to prescribed quality standards throughout the construction process.
The modernization of Dumraon railway station represents a significant infrastructure upgrade for the region. As work continues at an accelerated pace, passengers can look forward to a transformed travel experience in the coming years.
