The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) board is scheduled to meet on Thursday to deliberate on 17 key proposals, including revised development, permit, and inspection fees for the fiscal year 2026-27. This follows a state government-mandated hike. The board will also review a recently approved allocation of Rs 100 crore aimed at strengthening fire safety systems in high-rise buildings.
Fire Safety Measures
One of the most significant proposals on the agenda is the budgetary provision to enhance fire safety mechanisms. A GDA official stated, "One of the most important proposals that has been included in the agenda is budgetary provisions to boost the fire safety mechanism. Rs 100 crore has already been allotted, and now it requires the board's sanction."
In the aftermath of the Gaur Green Avenue fire incident, the GDA sanctioned Rs 100 crore to procure two hydraulic platforms capable of reaching a height of 102 meters, or up to 30 storeys. Currently, the district fire department possesses only one hydraulic platform that can reach up to 42 meters, or 14 storeys. The recent fire incident highlighted the inadequacy of existing equipment, as the city has over 400 high-rise apartments and buildings, particularly in areas such as Indirapuram, Crossings Republik, Raj Nagar Extension, and Sidharth Vihar.
Fee Hike Proposal
Another important proposal to be deliberated is the increase in development, permit, and inspection fees for the current fiscal year. The state government has already implemented a hike of approximately 4% for FY 2026-27.
Land Acquisition for Major Projects
For the GDA's ambitious Harnandipuram township project, the board will acquire land under the second phase. In the first phase, a layout plan for 336 hectares from three villages—Mathurapur, Shamsher, and Nangla Feroze Mohan Nagar—has been prepared. Additionally, the board will seek sanction for the acquisition of about 200 hectares of land for the Aerocity project in Morti.
Ghaziabad International Cricket Stadium
A formal nod from the board will also be sought for the Ghaziabad International Cricket Stadium, which will be jointly developed by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and the GDA. The Authority is seeking funding for the project under the Urban Challenge Fund, under which central assistance will cover 25% of the project cost, while 50% will be raised through the market.
