Ghaziabad Residents Demand Urgent Road Repairs and Safety Measures in Vaishali
Residents of Vaishali in Ghaziabad have raised serious concerns about deteriorating infrastructure, highlighting issues with broken roads, severe dust pollution, and widespread encroachment across multiple sectors. The community has expressed frustration over the prolonged neglect of these civic problems, which are affecting daily life and posing significant safety risks.
Persistent Road Damage Across Key Areas
According to local residents, the stretch under the elevated road near Supertech Residency in Sector 5 has remained in a state of disrepair for over 13 months now. This neglected condition has led to commuting difficulties and frequent traffic jams during peak hours, exacerbating the daily struggles of commuters.
In Sector 4, a large pothole has developed on a road near the metro station, while in Sector 5, Harshvardhan Marg is reported to be damaged and covered in layers of dust. The dust accumulation not only worsens air pollution but also creates hazardous driving conditions, particularly for two-wheelers and pedestrians.
Encroachment and Drain Safety Concerns
Residents have also alleged significant encroachment along the drain wall in front of Mahagun Mall in Sector 1. This encroachment, along with similar issues on sidewalks and green belts along other roads, makes it difficult for people to walk safely in their own neighborhoods.
Perhaps most alarming are the reports about open drains throughout the area. Sanjay Sharma, a resident of Vaishali, stated, "The roads in our area are in extremely poor condition. Apart from the roads mentioned above, open drains also pose a life-threatening situation."
Pushkar Rawat, another area resident, elaborated on the danger: "Even more concerning is the fact that the drains along the roadsides are deep and open, without any covers or safety barriers. At night, especially during fog and darkness, these open drains are nothing short of 'death traps,' where people, children, and vehicles are at risk of falling in."
Community Demands and Official Response
The residents have made several demands to address these pressing issues:
- Immediate repairs to all damaged roads in Vaishali
- Installation of safety covers on open drains to prevent accidents
- Strict checks on excessive encroachment on sidewalks and green belts
- Measures to control dust pollution from damaged road surfaces
Social activist Sunil Vaidya has taken formal action by writing to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) about these concerns. He claims that despite numerous complaints from residents, the situation persists without meaningful intervention.
"The safety of citizens is paramount, and this negligence could lead to a major accident at any time," warned Vaidya, who also marked a copy of his letter to the district magistrate to ensure higher-level attention to the matter.
The community's frustration stems from what they perceive as administrative inaction despite repeated appeals. Residents emphasize that these infrastructure issues not only cause daily inconvenience but also create genuine safety hazards that could result in serious accidents if left unaddressed.
As of now, a response from the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation regarding these complaints and demands is still awaited. The residents continue to hope for prompt action that will improve their living conditions and ensure safer streets for all community members.
