Residents of the HIG Colony in Abhay Khand, Ghaziabad, are enduring a severe civic crisis, grappling with a prolonged sewer line cleanup and a complete disruption of their drinking water supply. The situation, persisting for nearly a month, has turned daily life into a struggle against foul odours and a lack of basic amenities.
A Month of Muck and Misery
The core of the problem lies in the main sewer line servicing houses numbered 77 to 148, located behind the Abhay Khand police station. Cleaning work on this line has been ongoing for almost a month, but instead of relief, it has left behind piles of silt and debris on the roads, creating an unbearable stench. Despite numerous complaints from the affected residents, no effective solution has been provided by the civic authorities.
Water Woes Compound the Crisis
To make matters worse, the community's plight was compounded on December 12. During the ongoing repair work, an earthmover accidentally severed the drinking water pipeline. This mistake has left the entire colony without a proper water supply for days, adding a critical layer to the existing sanitation nightmare. The Residents' Welfare Association (RWA) President, CP Singh, has brought these urgent issues to the attention of local authorities and councillors, stressing the need for immediate intervention.
Residents Voice Frustration and Demand Accountability
The response from officials, however, has been far from satisfactory. Meena Bhandari, a resident of Abhay Khand HIG Flats, expressed the collective frustration, stating that instead of receiving solutions, they have been dismissively labelled as 'professional complainants'. She blamed the city's dirty water crisis on corruption and negligence within the sewer system.
Bhandari also highlighted a stark irony: the municipal corporation's zonal office itself suffers from similar hygiene problems. "If the very office responsible for maintaining cleanliness is chaotic and filled with dirty water, what can we expect for the rest of the city?" she questioned.
The problems are multifaceted. Anand Pandey, a resident of Anupam Apartment in Ward 79, reported that a broken drain and gushing sewer water are damaging and uprooting trees, further deteriorating the local environment.
Faced with official apathy, the residents are now raising their voices louder, calling for concrete action and accountability from their public representatives. CP Singh has issued a firm call to the community, urging everyone to take a stand against the negligence that has caused widespread suffering. The people of Abhay Khand are determined to keep the spotlight on their plight until decisive action is taken.
