Goa Government Transforms Village Libraries into Digital Learning Hubs
The state government of Goa is actively upgrading village libraries in Sattari taluka through a public-private partnership initiative. This project aims to create digitally equipped learning spaces specifically for children and adolescents in North Goa. The move responds to growing demands for modern educational resources in rural areas.
MLA's Query Sparks Progress Update
During the recently concluded winter session of the assembly, Poriem MLA Deviya Rane tabled a starred LAQ seeking information about library developments. Art and Culture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar provided a detailed reply, outlining the current status of the library enhancement project.
The initiative carries the formal title 'Setting up of Libraries for Children and Adolescents with Digital Infrastructure in District North Goa'. Minister Tawadkar confirmed that four existing libraries in Sattari taluka are undergoing renovation under this scheme.
Specific Locations Targeted for Improvement
The renovation work focuses on libraries in four key villages:
- Mauxi
- Poriem
- Cortorem
- Usgao-Ganjem
Additionally, the project includes constructing three completely new libraries in Honda, Bhironda, and Morlem. This expansion will significantly increase access to learning resources across the taluka.
Current Status and Implementation Details
Minister Tawadkar provided concrete updates on the project's progress. The library at Usgao-Ganjem has already completed its renovation phase. Work continues actively on the remaining three libraries at Mauxi, Poriem, and Cortorem.
The implementing agency handling these renovations is ITG. They are executing the upgrades to ensure libraries meet modern digital standards.
Timeline for Completion and Public Access
Regarding completion schedules, Tawadkar informed the assembly that renovation works for the remaining libraries should finish this month. Once renovations conclude, these facilities will become operational and open to the public.
This timeline suggests local communities will soon benefit from enhanced learning environments. The digital infrastructure will provide children and adolescents with improved access to information and educational materials.
The PPP model demonstrates how government collaboration with private partners can accelerate rural development projects. These upgraded libraries represent a significant step toward bridging the digital divide in Goa's village communities.
