Gorakhpur: Commissioner Anil Dhingra on Monday issued a stern warning that departments would face strict action if negligence led to accidents at under-construction drains. He directed all agencies to ensure proper barricading at every construction site across the city. The warning came during a review meeting on monsoon preparedness and waterlogging prevention, held at the auditorium of the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation (GMC) in the presence of the mayor.
Review Meeting Highlights
During the meeting, the commissioner instructed executing departments to complete all pending construction work before the onset of rains. He emphasized the need to resolve site-related issues through regular inspections. Specifically, he directed officials of the Jal Nigam to expedite work on the Goddhoiya drain project. Departments involved in construction activities were asked to personally inspect project sites and verify the condition of barricading. Damaged or inadequate barricading must be repaired immediately to avoid accidents, he stressed.
Regulator Construction and Safety Protocols
Dhingra also instructed officials of the irrigation and public works departments to complete the regulator construction work at Herbert embankment within 10 days. He emphasized that the Public Works Department (PWD), municipal corporation, and CNDS must ensure all safety protocols are followed during excavation and construction activities. The commissioner further directed irrigation department officials to inspect and test machines installed at the Tarkulani regulator before the monsoon season begins.
These measures aim to prevent waterlogging and accidents during the rainy season, ensuring public safety across Gorakhpur.
