The Indian government on Saturday appointed two joint secretaries and two joint directors to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is under scrutiny over the NEET-UG paper leak.
Appointments Made
According to orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, Anuja Bapat, an Indian Statistical Service officer of the 1998 batch, and Ruchita Vij, an Indian Revenue Service officer of the 2004 batch, have been appointed as joint secretaries. The department also upgraded two vacant posts at the deputy secretary/director level to joint secretary-level for a period of two years to facilitate these appointments.
In a separate order, Akash Jain, an Indian Revenue Service officer, and Aditya Rajendra Bhojgadhiya, an Indian Audit and Accounts Service officer, have been named joint directors in the NTA.
Background
On Friday, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that further reforms were needed in the NTA. The appointments come in the wake of the NEET-UG paper leak, which has raised questions about the agency's functioning. The government is taking steps to strengthen the NTA's leadership and ensure accountability.
