Gurgaon Food Department Cracks Down on LPG Distributors Over Hoarding and Black Marketing
In response to mounting complaints from consumers, the food and supplies department in Gurgaon conducted surprise raids on multiple LPG distributor warehouses on Tuesday. The inspections revealed a series of serious violations that have raised significant concerns about the handling and distribution of cooking gas to the public.
Multiple Violations Uncovered During Simultaneous Inspections
Inspection teams targeted four specific facilities during the operation. At the warehouses of Golden Gas and Palam Vihar Gas in Palam Vihar, along with Jai Bharat and Manjit Gas in Daulatabad, officials discovered troubling patterns of non-compliance. The findings included shortages of domestic cylinders, consumer complaint numbers that were non-functional, warehouses closing before scheduled times, and improper storage practices that could compromise safety standards.
District Food and Supplies Controller Ashok Kumar emphasized that the steady stream of complaints from LPG consumers, including those voiced on social media platforms, necessitated this stricter enforcement action. The department is now preparing formal notices to be sent to all four distributors identified during the raids.
New Monitoring Measures Implemented to Prevent Future Irregularities
To address these systemic issues, the department has ordered daily inspections at two gas agency warehouses as a preventive measure. These inspection teams will specifically verify how many cylinders each agency receives from oil companies and cross-check this against the number of cylinders actually supplied against consumer bookings. Detailed reports must be submitted every evening for further administrative action.
Later in the day, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar convened a review meeting with senior officials at the mini secretariat to assess the LPG supply situation across the district. He confirmed that domestic supply remains normal despite the violations discovered. The deputy commissioner noted that booking facilities through WhatsApp, IVRS, and mobile applications have been fully restored by all petroleum companies operating in the area.
Supply Statistics and Priority Distribution Channels Established
During the review meeting, officials provided specific data about recent LPG deliveries. The city received 17,725 commercial cylinders over the past two days, while approximately 3.3 lakh domestic cylinders have been supplied so far this month. With 58 gas agencies currently operating throughout the district, consumers are generally receiving their cylinders within two to three days of making online bookings.
The deputy commissioner issued clear directives to prioritize LPG supply to critical institutions and events. Hospitals, educational institutions with hostels, wedding functions, and sports academies will receive preferential access to cooking gas supplies. Additionally, officials have been instructed to maintain a 20% reserve stock at all times to ensure continuity of service.
Enhanced Monitoring and Public Reassurance Measures
All Sub-Divisional Magistrates have been directed to monitor local LPG stock levels on a daily basis and submit regular reports to the deputy commissioner's office. This enhanced monitoring aims to provide real-time visibility into supply chain operations and prevent future shortages or irregularities.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar also appealed directly to residents, urging them not to panic or believe rumors about potential LPG shortages. The administration emphasized that while violations have been identified and addressed, the overall supply system remains functional and capable of meeting consumer demand through proper channels.
