Gurgaon MCG Cracks Down: FIRs for Obstructing Stray Cattle Drives
Gurgaon MCG to file FIRs against stray cattle menace

In a decisive move to tackle the persistent problem of stray cattle on its streets, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has announced a stringent enforcement drive. The civic body will now register police complaints against individuals who try to block or hinder teams engaged in catching stray animals.

Zero Tolerance for Obstruction: Police to Join Drives

The key decision was made during a review meeting held on Monday, which was led by MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya. To ensure the operations are effective and face minimal resistance, the commissioner has directed that police personnel be deployed alongside the civic teams during cattle-catching drives. This step aims to directly deal with any confrontations or attempts to stop the work.

"FIRs will be lodged at the concerned police stations against those creating hurdles," stated Commissioner Dahiya, underlining the new strict approach. For improved accountability and faster results, municipal joint commissioners have been tasked with directly leading and monitoring the anti-stray cattle campaign on the ground.

Focus on Traffic Hotspots and Sustained Action

The commissioner has instructed officials to maintain the momentum of this drive without interruption. Special attention is to be given to locations where stray cattle most commonly cause traffic snarls and accidents. These include arterial roads, busy intersections, and residential colonies.

Highlighting the twin priorities of public safety and cleanliness, Dahiya said, "There will be no leniency towards stray cattle on roads and against those dumping waste in public spaces." The civic body's recent efforts have already shown results, with nearly 400 stray cattle captured and moved to authorised shelters over the past one-and-a-half months.

Parallel Crackdown on Sanitation Violations

The review meeting also covered sanitation measures in the city. Officials reported that regular cleaning drives are ongoing, and action is being taken against the illegal open dumping of garbage and construction debris. In a related enforcement action, the MCG imposed fines totalling Rs 49,500 on 92 violators. Additionally, the sanitation security force penalised two people Rs 10,000 and seized a vehicle involved in unlawful dumping.

The MCG has urged Gurgaon residents to actively participate in making the city safer by reporting sightings of stray cattle on roads. Citizens can call the helpline number 1800-180-1817 to inform the authorities about the cattle menace.
