Environmentalist and filmmaker Suresh Heblikar has urged the Karnataka government to adopt an environmentally sustainable approach to economic growth. Speaking at an event in Mysuru, he emphasized that development should be aligned with the natural assets of each district.
Focus on Local Resources
Heblikar proposed that industries should be established based on the geographical and natural strengths of respective districts. This would involve employing local talents, managing their skills, and upgrading them with modern technology. He argued that such a model would ensure balanced regional development while preserving the environment.
Call for Policy Shift
The environmentalist stressed that the state government must prioritize sustainable practices over short-term economic gains. He warned against indiscriminate industrialization that could deplete natural resources and harm ecosystems. Instead, he advocated for a decentralized development model that empowers local communities.
Heblikar's remarks come amid growing concerns over environmental degradation in Karnataka due to rapid urbanization and industrial expansion. His call for sustainable growth has resonated with environmental groups and local activists who have long demanded eco-friendly policies.
