Gurgaon Municipal Corporation Greenlights Major Waste Management Upgrade

The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has officially sanctioned a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing waste management facilities in two key areas. The civic body is set to upgrade the secondary waste collection points located in Beri Bagh and Khandsa village, with an estimated budget of Rs 6.6 crore approved by its finance and contracts committee.

Project Details and Environmental Safeguards

According to officials, the upgrade involves comprehensive structural improvements designed to address environmental and hygiene concerns. Both sites will be fully enclosed using view cutters, fencing, and protective covers to contain waste effectively and prevent spillage into the surrounding areas.

MCG executive engineer Sunder Sheoran provided specific technical details about the planned enhancements. "The platform will be concretised to provide a stable base, and leachate tanks will be constructed to manage liquid run-off from wet waste," Sheoran explained. "This crucial measure will ensure that potentially harmful liquids do not spill over into the environment. Additionally, provision drains will be installed to safely channel leachate into these designated tanks or ponds."

Timeline and Implementation Process

The corporation is currently in the process of hiring a contractor for the project, with work expected to commence within approximately one month once this procedural step is completed. This timeline reflects MCG's commitment to advancing urban infrastructure while following proper administrative protocols.

The upgrade represents a substantial investment in Gurgaon's civic infrastructure, focusing specifically on improving waste management systems that directly impact community health and environmental quality. By containing waste more effectively and managing leachate properly, the project aims to create cleaner, safer neighborhoods in Beri Bagh and Khandsa village.
