Haryana Chief Minister Officially Launches Census 2027 Operations Across the State

In a significant move towards national data collection, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini formally inaugurated the statewide census operations on Thursday. The launch marks the commencement of the self-enumeration process under the first phase of Census 2027, a critical national exercise conducted at regular intervals to gather essential demographic information.

Census Data: A Cornerstone for Development and Policy Formulation

Addressing the media in Chandigarh, Chief Minister Saini underscored the immense importance of the census data. He stated that the collected information is simple, secure, and completely confidential, playing a pivotal role in formulating schemes for various sections of society and determining the future trajectory of development. "This data is fundamental for designing policies that effectively reach every citizen and align with our vision for a Developed India by 2047," Saini emphasized.

Clarification on Census vs. Delimitation and Call for Cooperation

Responding to queries, the Chief Minister clarified that census and delimitation are two distinct subjects. He explained that delimitation, which involves redrawing electoral boundaries, is undertaken after long intervals and is not tied to any single political party but is a matter of public importance. "The Census data will prove highly useful in achieving national goals, and I urge all political parties to extend meaningful cooperation in this process," Saini appealed, highlighting the non-partisan nature of the exercise.

Phases and Timeline of Census 2027 in Haryana

The census operations in Haryana will unfold in two primary phases:

  • Self-Enumeration Phase: This digital initiative will run from April 16 to 30, 2026. Citizens are encouraged to participate online through a simple and secure process.
  • House Listing and Housing Census: For those unable to use the self-enumeration facility, enumerators will visit households to collect data from May 1 to 30, 2026.

Emphasis on Digital India, Privacy, and Ease of Living

Chief Minister Saini highlighted that the self-enumeration process strengthens Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Ease of Living' and the 'Digital India' campaign by offering a time-saving and convenient method for citizens. He reassured the public that all information gathered during the census is kept strictly confidential and used solely for statistical purposes. "It is not shared with any individual, organisation, or agency. Protection of citizens' privacy and maintaining their trust remains the government's top priority," Saini affirmed.

Appeal for Public Participation and Accurate Information

The Chief Minister concluded with a heartfelt appeal to all citizens of Haryana to cooperate fully with the census operations. He urged everyone to provide correct and complete information during both the self-enumeration and enumerator visits, ensuring the data's accuracy and reliability for future planning and development initiatives.
