Haryana reinstates engineer-in-chief Satbir Singh Kadian

The Haryana government on Tuesday reinstated Satbir Singh Kadian, the engineer-in-chief of the irrigation department, and assigned him the task of head of the department (special) and principal director of Haryana Irrigation Research and Management Institute (HIRMI) with immediate effect.

Reinstatement Order Details

The order issued on behalf of the governor stated that his posting and appointment would be without prejudice to the disciplinary action pending against him. Kadian, who played a key role in distribution and flow of Yamuna waters from Hathnikund Barrage to New Delhi and water management services from Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), was one of the key functionaries of the irrigation department.

Background of Disciplinary Action

He was indicted for administrative lapses in the awarding of a work order worth over Rs 116 crore. During suspension, he was attached with the Panchkula headquarters of the irrigation department. Referring to the current assignment, sources revealed that the development is consequent to the review of the decision from the chief minister office (CMO) following the discussion of top brass of the department.

Significance of Kadian's Return

Kadian's return is considered to be crucial, especially in the wake of peak summer season when the state government makes all-out efforts to supply Yamuna waters to New Delhi in addition to distribution of Haryana's share from Bhakra across the state. The reinstatement aims to ensure smooth water management during the high-demand period.
