Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday released ‘Water Laws of Himachal Pradesh’, the first-ever comprehensive compendium consolidating all major Acts, rules, policy notifications, technical manuals and administrative circulars governing the Jal Shakti Department into a single volume. The publication aims to serve as an authoritative reference for officers, engineers, contractors and the public, promoting greater transparency, accountability and efficiency in water supply, sewerage and irrigation services across the state.
Compilation Details and Purpose
Compiled and edited by the Jal Shakti Department, the compendium brings together legal, technical and administrative provisions that have evolved over several decades. Sukhu stated that making these documents readily accessible will enable effective implementation of water-related policies and projects. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri was also present at the launch event in Shimla.
Recognition and Achievements
Sukhu highlighted that Himachal Pradesh has emerged among the leading states in implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission, a central scheme to provide tap water connections to all rural households. He also noted that the state’s efforts towards sustainable water management were recognised with the National Water Award in 2026. The compendium is expected to further streamline governance and service delivery in the water sector.
