Himachal Pradesh Launches North India's First Automated Driving Test Facility
In a significant step toward modernizing driver testing, Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri officially inaugurated the state's inaugural automated driving test track and traffic park on Wednesday. The advanced facility is located at Roda in the Haroli area of Una district.
Advanced Technology for Impartial Assessments
Constructed with an investment of approximately Rs 9 crore, the new sensor-based track is equipped with sophisticated camera systems designed to ensure precise and unbiased evaluation of driving candidates. Deputy CM Agnihotri emphasized that this technology will substantially reduce human intervention during testing procedures.
Every aspect of the driving examination will be digitally monitored, creating a more reliable and efficient system that enhances the overall integrity of the licensing process. The facility represents a major upgrade in how driving licenses are issued within the state.
Comprehensive Testing Features and Future Plans
The automated track incorporates multiple driving patterns essential for thorough assessment, including 'S', '8', and 'H' configurations. Candidates will also be tested on parallel parking skills, junction navigation capabilities, and incline handling techniques.
Agihotri described this as the only automated testing facility of its kind in North India and outlined plans for phased enhancements. Future developments include constructing waiting areas for improved public convenience and adding provisions for testing heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks.
Transition to Modernized Testing System
While conventional testing methods will continue temporarily during the transition period, the new system will allow candidates to schedule their test slots online. This digital approach streamlines the entire examination process and reduces administrative bottlenecks.
The complex will serve dual purposes as both a testing center and an educational hub for road safety. Students will have opportunities to learn about traffic rules and safe driving practices through dedicated programs at the facility.
Additional Development Announcement
During the inauguration event, Deputy CM Agnihotri also announced an allocation of Rs 10 crore to develop the Haroli Ground into a permanent fair venue. This complementary development aims to enhance community infrastructure alongside the technological advancement represented by the driving test facility.
The automated driving test track marks a transformative moment for transportation administration in Himachal Pradesh, setting new standards for efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in driver licensing across North India.
