Hyderabad Transport Department Moves Vehicle Registration Fully Online
In a significant advancement for digital governance and administrative efficiency, the Hyderabad transport department has implemented a comprehensive online system for permanent vehicle registration. This transformative initiative completely eliminates the requirement for automobile dealers to submit physical documents to Regional Transport Authority (RTA) offices, marking a substantial leap forward in streamlining bureaucratic processes.
Building on Previous Digital Reforms
Transport Commissioner K Ilambarithi emphasized that this latest development builds upon the dealer point registration system introduced on January 24th. That earlier reform exempted non-transport motorcycles and motor cars from physical presentation at RTA offices for initial registration, allowing dealers to complete formalities on behalf of vehicle owners and reducing citizen visits to government offices.
However, despite eliminating vehicle inspection requirements, dealers were still obligated to send Form-20 documents – signed by both vehicle owners and financiers – along with supporting paperwork via speed post or courier to respective RTA offices. Transport officials observed that this paper-based procedure frequently caused registration delays due to transit times and manual document handling.
Complete Digital Transformation Implementation
To address these persistent bottlenecks, the department has now mandated a fully digital submission process effective immediately. Automobile dealers must upload scanned copies of Form-20 and all supporting documentation directly through the official online portal, with signatures from vehicle owners and financiers included where applicable. This digital transition completely discontinues the previous practice of sending physical documents to RTA offices.
The transport department has clarified that RTA offices will no longer accept any physical documentation for vehicles issued Temporary Registration (TR) moving forward. Vehicles that received TR earlier can also complete their permanent registration through this same online system by uploading scanned documents.
Enhanced Accountability and Processing Protocols
Transport officials have emphasized that dealers will bear full responsibility for document authenticity uploaded through the digital system. Any instances of forged, misleading, or incorrect documentation will trigger criminal proceedings under applicable legal provisions.
To ensure accelerated processing, RTA authorities have received directives to scrutinize online applications within two working days, either approving them or returning submissions for clarification. The department has issued warnings that undue processing delays could result in strict disciplinary action against responsible officials.
Dealers have also received cautions against holding applications at their end. The department specified that no registration application should remain pending with a dealer for more than seven days, with potential consequences including suspension of dealer system logins and further administrative action for non-compliance.
