In a significant move aimed at transforming urban living, the newly appointed commissioner of the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC), Ashish Gangwar, has laid out a detailed and ambitious plan for the city's development. The 2021-batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, who assumed charge on January 2, emphasized creating a citizen-centric environment to enhance civic facilities and the overall quality of life for Dhanbad's residents.

Speaking within just three days of taking office, Commissioner Gangwar made it clear that his primary focus would be on the timely implementation of all municipal works and welfare schemes. He stressed that preventing unnecessary hardship for the common people was paramount. Timely execution and accountability were highlighted as the cornerstones of his administrative approach, signaling a shift towards a more responsive and efficient municipal body.
Boosting Revenue for Enhanced Civic Amenities
Recognizing the critical link between financial health and development, Gangwar underscored the importance of strengthening the corporation's revenue base. He stated that revenue generation is indispensable for upgrading civic amenities and launching new projects. "Strengthening the revenue base of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation is essential if we want to improve facilities and undertake new development works," he affirmed, pledging to take all possible steps to augment municipal income.
A key part of this strategy involves the 912 shops currently operated by the DMC. Plans are in motion not only to improve the facilities in these existing shops but also to increase their number. The identification of new locations for commercial spaces is on the agenda, a move expected to boost municipal revenue while providing better commercial infrastructure across the city.
Tech-Driven Sanitation and Administrative Modernization
In a bid to revolutionize cleanliness in Dhanbad, the commissioner announced the introduction of a vehicle tracking system in all sanitation vehicles. This technological intervention will allow for real-time monitoring of sanitation work, leading to better supervision, improved worker efficiency, and ultimately, a cleaner urban landscape.
On the administrative front, Gangwar provided an update on the new DMC building, which is almost ready. He acknowledged that the shifting process has been delayed due to some unresolved issues but assured citizens that these matters would be resolved promptly. The move to the new office is anticipated to streamline operations and result in better service delivery for the public.
