The IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (PTU) Non-Teaching Employees Association has announced a peaceful protest on July 9, citing prolonged delays in employee promotions, non-implementation of Board of Governors decisions, and administrative inaction on longstanding demands.
Protest Details and Demands
At a special meeting in the university’s seminar hall, Association President Pravan Kumar led discussions with a large number of non-teaching employees. They expressed frustration over repeated assurances from the university administration without meaningful progress on key issues, including promotions that have been pending for four to five years.
The association claims that hundreds of eligible employees have not received promotions despite fulfilling required eligibility criteria and service conditions. This has resulted in financial losses and career stagnation, adversely affecting employee morale.
Allegations of Administrative Inaction
“Several meetings over the past months and years with the Registrar, Vice-Chancellor, and other officials have yielded only promises,” a spokesperson said. The association alleges that decisions approved by the Board of Governors have not been implemented in a timely manner, raising concerns about institutional governance.
Employees have exhausted all channels of dialogue and now seek concrete action. The protest will take place on July 9 from 1 pm to 2 pm outside the offices of the Registrar and the Vice-Chancellor, featuring symbolic drum beating to draw attention to grievances.
Future Steps
Kumar stated that the protest is not against any individual but aims to highlight systemic administrative delays affecting employees’ rights. If no action follows, the association may intensify its democratic agitation, placing responsibility for escalation on the administration.
