Indore Implements Structured E-Rickshaw Network Across Seven City Sectors
In a significant move to streamline urban mobility, the Indore traffic department has unveiled a comprehensive sector-based mapping system for e-rickshaws across the city. This innovative initiative divides Indore into seven designated sectors, each meticulously planned to cover essential transit points and residential hubs, ensuring widespread availability of eco-friendly transport options.
Strategic Sector Division to Prevent Congestion
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Rajesh Singh, the sectoral division is strategically designed to prevent route overlapping and alleviate congestion in high-traffic zones. By assigning specific registration numbers to each sector, the traffic management police aim to create an efficient feeder system that supports major transit arteries without impeding the movement of faster vehicles.
This structured approach not only enhances traffic flow but also provides reliable last-mile connectivity across the metropolitan area, Singh emphasized. The initiative reflects a proactive effort to integrate e-rickshaws into the city's transportation framework while minimizing disruptions.
Registration Drive and Sector-Wise Allocation
To facilitate the implementation of this system, registration camps have been established at key locations, including the traffic police station east at MTH Compound, the west traffic control room in Mahunaka, and various Assistant Commissioner of Police traffic zone offices. So far, a total of 3,123 e-rickshaws out of an estimated 10,000 have registered for operation across the seven sectors.
The sector-wise distribution of registered e-rickshaws is as follows:
- Sector 1: 151 vehicles
- Sector 2: 223 vehicles
- Sector 3: 790 vehicles
- Sector 4: 351 vehicles
- Sector 5: 157 vehicles
- Sector 6: 1,328 vehicles (the highest allocation)
- Sector 7: 123 vehicles
Ongoing Outreach and Future Plans
Singh further noted that traffic police are actively reaching out to the remaining e-rickshaw drivers to encourage registration and ensure compliance with the assigned routes. This outreach is crucial for the successful adoption of the sector-based system, he added, highlighting the department's commitment to fostering a disciplined and efficient transport ecosystem.
The initiative is expected to not only improve traffic management but also boost the adoption of sustainable transport solutions in Indore. By providing a clear framework for e-rickshaw operations, the city aims to set a benchmark for other urban centers grappling with similar mobility challenges.
