Jalandhar Orders Special Checking Drive Against Traffic Violators

The Jalandhar administration has directed authorities to launch a special checking drive against traffic rule violators as part of a major effort to improve road safety and reduce accidents. The orders were issued on Wednesday during a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amaninder Kaur.

Focus on Underage Drivers and Overloaded Vehicles

Kaur instructed the Traffic Police and Transport Department to intensify enforcement against underage drivers, overloaded vehicles, over-height vehicles, and motorists driving under the influence of alcohol. Special checking drives will be conducted to curb these violations.

Action Against Overloading in Public Transport

With overloading in public transport remaining a concern, particularly in auto-rickshaws, Kaur directed officials to take focused action against such violations. She emphasized the need for strict enforcement to ensure passenger safety.

Review of Accident-Prone Blackspots

Reviewing the status of accident-prone blackspots across the district, the ADC asked Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to conduct joint inspections along with police officials and road agencies. She directed them to identify shortcomings and expedite corrective measures at vulnerable locations.

Pedestrian Safety Plan

The meeting also focused on pedestrian safety. Kaur directed the Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), and Mandi Board to prepare a detailed plan for ensuring safer movement of pedestrians. Officials were also instructed to remove encroachments from roads, clear roadside vegetation that obstructs visibility, and repair damaged road stretches.

Hit-and-Run Cases and School Vehicle Policy

Kaur instructed police officials to ensure FIRs were registered in all hit-and-run cases. Reviewing the implementation of the Safe School Vehicle Policy, she emphasized that the guidelines must be followed in letter and spirit to ensure the safety of schoolchildren.
