JDA to Use Satellite Imagery and Geo-Tagging to Protect Govt Land
JDA to Use Satellite Tech to Protect Govt Land in Jaipur

The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is set to launch a technology-driven system that uses real-time satellite imagery and geo-tagging to protect unused government land from encroachment across the city. This initiative aims to curb illegal occupation and ensure swift action against violations.

Verification and Deployment

JDA officials have completed the physical verification of these lands, with around 206 officers—including additional chief engineers and deputy commissioners—deployed for the exercise. According to an official, "Following the verification, geo-tagging of identified properties is scheduled to begin Monday. Once that process is finished, the system will be considered formally operational."

How the System Works

Under the plan, all government plots under JDA custody will be digitally mapped and monitored online. Any fresh occupation, illegal construction, or boundary disturbance will be flagged quickly, enabling authorities to act before encroachments become permanent. The system will also allow designated officers to send instant SOS alerts to enforcement teams for swift ground action.

Expected Benefits

The initiative is expected to strengthen land protection, particularly in Jaipur’s outer zones where complaints of illegal occupation are frequent. Delays in information flow have often allowed land mafias to act quickly, sometimes setting up illegal colonies or raising structures before authorities intervene. An enforcement official stated, "The new system will sharply reduce such delays by creating a live surveillance and response framework. In Zone 10 alone, the JDA has freed 613 bighas of government land over the past five years."

Future Expansion

If successful, the model may be expanded to other agencies, including the Rajasthan Housing Board. The system promises greater transparency in the use of government land and a proactive approach to preventing encroachments.
