Karnal Civic Body Initiates Major Drive for PNG Connections Amid LPG Supply Woes

In a decisive move to address the escalating LPG supply crisis, the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC), in collaboration with the district administration and public representatives, has formulated a comprehensive action plan. This initiative aims to aggressively promote piped natural gas (PNG) connections throughout the city, offering a reliable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional LPG cylinders.

High-Level Meeting Charts Course for Sustainable Gas Supply

A pivotal meeting was convened at the Municipal Corporation conference hall, chaired by Mayor Renu Bala Gupta and presided over by MC Commissioner Vaishali Sharma. Senior officials from the district administration and KMC were in attendance, focusing on devising a long-term strategy to ensure uninterrupted gas supply for residents. The gathering underscored the growing dependency on LPG, which has led to supply imbalances, and highlighted PNG as a safer, more sustainable option.

Strategic Plan Includes Surveys and Awareness Campaigns

As part of the action plan, ward-level surveys will be conducted to identify potential PNG consumers across Karnal. Additionally, extensive awareness campaigns will be launched utilizing WhatsApp groups, social media platforms, and other communication channels to encourage households to adopt PNG. Mayor Gupta emphasized, "To reduce dependency on LPG cylinders, PNG is a good alternative, and people can avail the benefits of it." This push aims to mitigate the LPG shortage by shifting demand towards piped gas.

Officials Urge Swift Action and Highlight Existing Infrastructure

MC Commissioner Sharma directed officials from Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to expedite surveys, awareness drives, and the connection process. She noted that approximately 8,000 households in Karnal already have access to PNG infrastructure but need encouragement to make connections promptly. Sharma also instructed IGL to complete restoration work on laid pipelines, warning of strict action if delays occur. SDM Pradeep Kumar added that PNG is a cheaper and better option for residents, urging around 10,000 households with both LPG and PNG connections to discontinue LPG and rely solely on PNG.

Focus on Eco-Friendly and Cost-Effective Solutions

The initiative aligns with broader goals of promoting renewable energy and sustainable practices. By reducing reliance on LPG, the plan not only addresses immediate supply issues but also contributes to environmental conservation. IGL officials presented data on current supply, rising demand, and future prospects, reinforcing PNG's viability as a long-term solution. All councillors have pledged full cooperation in implementing this strategy, ensuring a coordinated effort to tackle the LPG crisis effectively.
