The Karnataka government has distributed cheques worth Rs 2.38 crore to five families who voluntarily decided to relocate from the Kudremukh National Park. This initiative is part of a larger rehabilitation programme aimed at conserving the park's ecosystem.
Relocation Progress
According to Eshwar Khandre, the Minister for Forests, there are approximately 1,300 families living inside the Kudremukh National Park. Out of these, 350 families have already been compensated and relocated successfully. Another 300 families have voluntarily applied for relocation, and the rehabilitation programme will be implemented in phases.
Voluntary Relocation
The families that received the compensation are among those who willingly chose to move out of the forest area to facilitate conservation efforts. The government is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all families opting for relocation.
Naina J A reported that the compensation amount is intended to help the families settle in new locations. The process is being carried out with the consent of the families, and the government is providing necessary support.
This move is expected to reduce human-wildlife conflict and aid in the preservation of the biodiversity within the national park. The phased approach ensures that the rehabilitation is carried out systematically without causing undue hardship to the residents.
