Kerala Minister Announces Bridge Beautification Sponsorship Scheme
Kerala Minister Unveils Bridge Beautification Sponsorship Plan

Thiruvananthapuram: Public Works Minister P K Basheer has announced a new sponsorship scheme aimed at the beautification of bridges and junctions across Kerala. The initiative will involve the installation of decorative lights and planters on bridges, as well as the enhancement of junctions, with financial support from companies and local residents.

Guidelines and Fund Utilization

The minister stated that comprehensive guidelines will be prepared to allow sponsors to advertise at these locations. A dedicated system will be established to enable the Public Works Department (PWD) to directly utilize the funds generated through this sponsorship. This move is expected to improve the aesthetic appeal of public infrastructure while fostering community and corporate participation.

Meeting with Officials

Basheer made the announcement during a meeting with senior officials, chief engineers, and heads of institutions under the PWD. The discussion also covered the resolution of pending issues within the department.

An adalat, or grievance redressal forum, will be organized to expedite the resolution of promotions and disciplinary actions for PWD officials. The minister emphasized the need for prompt submission of projects that can be included in the 100-day action plan soon to be announced by the Chief Minister. He stressed that road maintenance should be completed on a war footing before the Sabarimala pilgrimage season and that inspections required before the monsoon season should be implemented accurately.

Transparency and Trust

Basheer urged officials and contractors to work together to implement public works transparently, timely, and effectively. He reaffirmed the department's commitment to infrastructure development and stated that the government holds no preconceived notions that contractors and officials are corrupt. The department will move forward with full trust in its officials and contractors.
