Mathura Administration Implements Unique Monkey Deterrence for President's Visit
In preparation for President Droupadi Murmu's upcoming visit to Uttar Pradesh, the Mathura district administration has initiated a novel strategy to manage aggressive monkeys at key religious sites. Approximately 30 trained personnel will be stationed at sensitive locations in Vrindavan and Govardhan, equipped with langur cutouts and slingshots, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Addressing Monkey Menace with Innovative Measures
The decision follows numerous complaints from devotees and visitors about monkeys snatching belongings in crowded temple areas. An official explained, "The use of langurs has demonstrated some effectiveness in scaring away monkeys, but wildlife protection regulations prevent their direct deployment. Therefore, our forest teams are utilizing cutouts as a humane alternative." This approach aims to balance safety with environmental compliance, ensuring the visit proceeds smoothly without harming local wildlife.
Enhanced Security and Civic Preparations
SSP Shlok Kumar detailed the comprehensive security arrangements for the three-day visit, which begins on Thursday. Key sites under enhanced surveillance include Prem Mandir, ISKCON Temple in Vrindavan, and the Govardhan Parikrama route. Multi-layered security protocols have been implemented, incorporating traffic regulation and crowd management strategies. Kumar added, "The President's itinerary features visits to temples, ashrams, and hospitals, along with a parikrama of Govardhan Ji. We have deployed SP-rank officers at all halting points, monitored social media, and issued a detailed traffic plan to ensure order."
Authorities have announced restrictions in specific areas, with adequate police deployment planned to manage the expected crowds. Additionally, municipal commissioner Jag Pravesh highlighted civic beautification efforts, such as road repairs, painting, and installations crafted from recycled plastic waste, to enhance the locale's appearance for the high-profile visit.
